KURDISTAN REGION ON AUTISM RESEARCH AND AWARENESS

March 02, 2020 at 7pm – 9pm

Committee Room 11, House of Commons

Join the Centre for Kurdish Progress for a discussion on the ways we can strengthen British-Kurdish relations and increase cooperation in bridging the gap in the medical field, focusing on the autistic spectrum disorder (ASD).

Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects people’s perception of the world and their interaction with it. People with autism are on a spectrum, which means while they share some difficulties, they are all affected individually in their own way.

To date, there are over 3,000 people diagnosed as autistic in the Kurdistan Region and in the United Kingdom, there are 700,000 people on the autism spectrum. The United Kingdom is one of the leading countries on autism research, and can substantially aid the Kurdistan Region’s progress in this field.

We hope to highlight the benefits of coordinating between the UK and Kurdistan Region on autism research, as well as the barriers facing Kurdish families, stigma associated with ASD and the methodology needed to be adopted.

As part of our project, Hope Autism Society, we will be holding regular workshops and support groups for parents both in the UK and Kurdistan Region.
