Annual Kurdish New Year Reception Hosted at Speaker’s House

In the heart of Britain’s political landscape, the Annual Kurdish New Year Reception, hosted by Rosie Winterton MP and Alicia Kearns MP at the prestigious Speaker’s House, unfolded as a testament to cultural diversity and unity. The event, held on Monday, 18th of March, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, was made possible with the gracious approval of the Rt Hon Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP, Speaker of the Parliament.

This exclusive reception brought together Members of Parliament, Ambassadors, and distinguished guests in a celebration of the Kurdish New Year, fostering intercultural dialogue and appreciation within the parliamentary sphere. It was an evening filled with vibrant cultural exchanges and insightful discussions, highlighting the rich traditions and contributions of the Kurdish community.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Shayan Talabany, Malcolm Deboo, President of the Zoroastrian Trust Fund for Europe, Bob Seely MP, Feryal Clark MP—the first Kurdish woman in the UK Parliament, Shafa Barzani, President of the Kurdish Diaspora Centre, and Wayne David MP, Shadow Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office Minister for the Middle East & North Africa. Each of you enriched the celebration with your presence and insightful speeches, bridging cultures and fostering a deeper understanding among all attendees.

Shayan Talabany’s words captivated the audience, weaving the rich tapestry of Kurdish history and aspirations with the evening’s theme of unity and progress. Malcolm Deboo’s insights into the Zoroastrian principles of good thoughts, good words, and good deeds resonated deeply, underscoring the universal values of peace and friendship.

Bob Seely MP, Feryal Clark MP, and Wayne David MP shared their perspectives on the importance of cultural diversity and the role of political engagement in promoting inclusion and understanding across communities. Shafa Barzani’s vision for the Kurdish Diaspora Centre as a beacon of Kurdish culture and heritage abroad inspired all present and highlighted the diaspora’s vital role in the global cultural mosaic.

This gathering was not just a celebration but a symbol of the enduring friendship and solidarity between the United Kingdom and the Kurdish community. It underscored the shared commitment to fostering a world where cultural diversity is celebrated and mutual respect flourishes.

As we reflect on the success of the Annual Kurdish New Year Reception, we are reminded of the power of coming together to celebrate our shared humanity. Kurdish Progress is grateful for the contributions of all speakers and guests who made this event a milestone in promoting cultural diversity and dialogue.

We look forward to continuing this tradition of celebration and conversation and to building even stronger bridges of understanding and cooperation in the future.
