Iran: Exonerate Kurdish language activist

Kurdish civil society activist Zahra Mohammadi has been sentenced to ten years in prison for empowering marginalised members of Iran’s Kurdish minority.

Zahra, 29, is the director of Nojin Cultural Association, where students learn about Kurdish language and literature. In December 2019, she was released on bail after her case attracted international attention, and the support of Amnesty International.

In a video shared online, Zara urges the Iranian court to revise their decision and provide evidence of allegations that her organisation worked for any purpose other than teaching the Kurdish language.

The Centre for Kurdish Progress calls on the Iranian government to immediately exonerate Zara Mohammadi, and have reached out to respective members of parliament in the United Kingdom over this case.
