The Centre for Kurdish Progress is delighted to invite you to a talk with Mr Rezan Sarica, lawyer to imprisoned Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan.
Mr Sarica is one of two lawyers to have been granted access to Mr Ocalan on May 2nd and 22nd, ending a period of almost complete isolation since the breakdown of peace negotiations between the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) and the Turkish government in 2015.
Imprisoned on the Turkish island of Imrali since 1999, Mr Ocalan retains unparalleled influence among the Kurdish political movement in the region.
Following his visit, Mr Sarica communicated statements on Mr Ocalan’s behalf calling for an end to recent hunger strikes in Turkey and for a conciliatory approach towards the conflict in Syria.
Turkey’s abrupt about-turn in policy toward Mr Ocalan’s isolation has raised hopes of a return to peace negotiations as part of a wider political settlement in both countries.
