Turkish military jets have struck multiple targets within Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

Turkish military jets have struck multiple targets within Iraqi Kurdistan Region. The military campaign took place in the early hours of Monday, claiming to target the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

The Center for Kurdish Progress expresses concern over Turkey’s cross-border incursions. These provocative measures further accelerate tensions in a fragile region at a time the world is facing a global health pandemic.
The military campaign struck dozens of places, among them Sinjar province, home of the persecuted Yezidi minority group.
The Yazidi community in Iraq have faced unprecedented violations in recent years, including the genocide led by ISIS against their community. The international community have a moral responsibility to ensure genocide survivors are able to return to their homeland safely, without the imminent threats of military bombardments.

We condemn these military incursions, which puts the lives of refugees, IDPs and civilians at risk.
